Negotiation between Content Providers and Terminals for Interactive Metadata-driven Scalable Multimedia Applications

Nowadays, information and communication technology provides the different players in the multimedia delivery chain (from content creators to end users) with an excess of information and services. Offering access to all this information from almost anywhere at anytime with the current ubiquitous terminals is far from trivial. In this paper, we will discuss a scalable approach to tackle these problems. Attention will be paid to the development of a generic framework that should allow an enhancement of the coding efficiency of multimedia content by taking into account the characteristics of terminals and the intermediate network, and the exchanged (meta)data.
